Contribution of the Workers' Party of Belgium (WPB) by Baudouin Deckers
When the financial crisis broke out end of 2008 it brought about a world-wide crisis of the economy. This was inevitable. Indeed, the financial crisis is rooted in a structural crisis of over-production which has been worsening in successive waves since the first years of the seventies.

System Crisis (14 january 2010 07h16) According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the current crash is only comparable to that of 1929. At the time, the crash was followed by several years of great depression: many businesses closed, unemployment was incredibly high, salaries were cut, poverty rose. This was the forewarning of the Second World War.

Thoughts on the current economic crisis (4 juni 2009 14h05) The main theory, which was put forward once again during the recent G20 summit in London on April 2nd 2009, is that problems occurred because of excesses on the financial market. On the contrary in our opinion, the current recession, while it started on the American real estate market, while it first affected financial markets, can only be understood by replacing it in the larger context of capitalist "productive" economy.

System crisis (20 april 2009 17h20) It's likely that September 2008 will continue to ring in our minds in the same way that September 2001 does. After the attacks on the Twin Towers, America went to war. After the recent financial crisis on Wall Street, the warrior is knocked out.

It is high time we united against this crisis (4 march 2009 15h16) Common statement (excerpts)PTB-PVDA, DKP, NCPN, KPL
The financial and banking crisis has led to a global economic crisis. This crisis is the result of the capitalist model of society where, for many years, overproduction has been concealed by great credit growth and debt-financed consumption in the United States.
The time has come to further develop socialist views of the future in Europe.

We must urgently advance in the consolidation of the coordination of an independent international communist movement.
